Mia is a multidisciplinary artist, designer and innovator currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Aotearoa (New Zealand). Her practice focuses on the human body and how it occupies and engages with spaces, objects, materials and other beings. Her spatial practice questions and explores the presence and perspectives of human beings through a combination of experimental and physical work. Driven by an interest for challenging psychological and social spaces, her works unfold through a utilisation of space, body, object, material, film and sculpture.
Rooted in a commitment to sustainability and regenerative design, Mia works extensively with bio-based materials, including mycelium, to reimagine how design and art can move beyond extractive systems. Her projects draw on principles of bio-design, circularity, and ecological awareness, seeking to create material futures that are both imaginative and restorative.
Through installations, objects, and collaborative research, Mia’s practice challenges psychological and social notions of space while encouraging critical thought around our collective future. By pushing the boundaries between art, design, and architecture, her work opens up new possibilities for more conscious and resilient ways of living.
